Shiva and Shakti
Shiva and Shakti are two inseparable forces. Shiva is the power-holder, representing pure awareness, stillness, and the unmanifest potential behind existence. Shakti is the power itself, the active energy that creates, moves, and gives life. One cannot function without the other, just as energy requires a source and a source requires energy to express itself.
Shiva is often associated with transcendence and is described as a descending force of divine consciousness. Shakti, by contrast, is the creative energy rising upward from the earth and through life. Their movement toward one another symbolizes the meeting of spirit and matter, consciousness and creation.

Just as a child is born through the union of a woman and a man’s seed, the universe is said to arise through the union of Shakti’s creative power and Shiva’s consciousness. Shakti brings forth form and manifestation, while Shiva provides the conscious principle that animates it. Shakti is also linked to maya, the power through which the world appears and takes shape. More than mere illusion, maya is portrayed as the creative medium that makes experience, art, wisdom, and life possible.
Together, Shiva and Shakti exist in a perpetual union that generates both the physical and spiritual dimensions of reality. According to this view, these same ascending and descending energies exist within every person. Spiritual development involves bringing them into harmony, allowing consciousness and creative energy to unite and reveal a deeper understanding of oneself and the universe.
